Tridacna maxima
Theses are widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to the Marshall Islands. These clams bore deeply into substrate but in the reef aquarium we have not experienced this. They do have byssal threads that anchor themselves to a place they like. If they do not like where they are they will not secure their position. These clams are the most commercially available specimens and are almost always from clam breeding facilities. We only have a few in stock as we only sell the Ultra variety and hand pick them when they are available. Sometimes the shrimps Conochodytes tridacnae and Anchistrus demani live symbiotically with this giant clam.
