Deltec Protein Skimmers

Protein skimming is a method to efficiently remove waste materials from seawater by adhesion of dissolved organic substances to fine air bubbles. There are two types of organic compounds relating to skimmers, hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds. Hydrophobic compounds will readily attach to the outside of bubbles. This causes a foam. This foam is a waste product. The benefit of a protein skimmer lies in the fact that once the waste materials are skimmed off, they are removed from the water flow, preventing these waste products from being decomposed to nitrate and phosphate.

The protein skimmer is basically a foam chamber with a collection cup. The collection cup removes these hydrophobic compounds. The difference between protein skimmers is simply the efficiency. Quantity and size of the air bubbles, contact time between air, water and appropriate chamber to create a stable foam. The difference between skimmers how they do this. A more efficient skimmer allows maximum time for these hydrophobic compounds to contact and attach to the bubbles in a protein skimmer. More often than not you pay for what you get. Deltec Protein Skimmers offer great performance at a competitive price. Their larger skimmers are preferred by municipal aquariums and aquaculture facilities nation wide.

Deltec GMBH is the largest skimmer manufacture in Germany with over twenty different skimmer models to cover the full range of aquarium sizes and biotypes.

Deltec 2009 Single Chamber Protein Skimmers

$1349-$3399

The SC models are designed to sit inside the sump and require no further equipment or pipe work for them to operate, making them completely ‘Plug and Play’.

The new bubble plate design allows the height of the skimmers to be reduced compared with the current range to allow them to fit in a greater number of installations and cabinets. The primary use of the bubble chamber is to prevent turbulence from the skimmer body and neck as turbulence can pull waste loaded bubbles back into the water column causing a reduction in efficiency. The air to water ratio is so high that there is almost immediate reaction with the waste therefore there is no requirement for the tall reaction chambers found on some low air skimmers thus keeping the units compact.

Deltec 2009 Twin Chamber Protein Skimmers

$1,349-$3,399

The TC name describes the special Twin Chamber design of the bubble chamber which is patented and has the benefit of pressurizing the pumps for higher performance and ensures that only unskimmed water passes through the pump rather than reskimming and reprocessing water in the chamber.
