Dry Reef Rock

Marco RockBuilding a reef tank using primarily quality dry rock is both eco friendly and cost effective. Our dry rock comes from ancient prehistoric reefs, not stolen from living reefs. By starting with a majority of dry rock seeded with our own aquacultured Live Rock or other quality transshipped Live Rock you will avoid the dreaded rock cycle. Whenever you move Live Rock or ship it for a few days only in wet newspaper you will have some organisms, especially some sponges, die. These decaying organisms will pollute your tank until the bacteria can render the toxins and nutrients harmless. By having an abundance of dry rock you now provide the bacteria a tremendous amount of surface area to multiply. The bacteria reproduce at an amazing rate, in some cases doubling every couple of hours. Also by seeding your tank with only a small amount of transshipped Live Rock you will provide enough dilution for the decaying organisms so that their toxins will not harm the organisms that did survive the shipping process.

Marco Rock

Marco Rock is one of the best dry rock for marine aquariums. Most dry rock is simply mined, power washed, and shipped with some organic nutrients still trapped. Our Marco Rock has been cured in a special solution which greatly reduces the organics and phosphates that may cause a cycle. This is why it is our preferred rock for aquaculture and initial setups. It’s also light and highly porous. This gives you incredible value in aquascaping compared to the boring and more dense base rock. This rock is also optimal for bacteria and micro fauna. The bacteria and micro fauna are the filtration for a marine tank. The bacteria break down the toxic Ammonia and Nitrite and find plenty of surface area to multiply and grow. The micro fauna consume the uneaten fish food and large fish waste. The micro Fauna with the right environment and hiding places will reproduce rapidly and provide additional natural food for your fish and corals. Large custom show pieces are available by special request. You tell us the size and shape and we will provide it for you and at a cost much less than the local suppliers.

Base Rock

Our base rock comes direct from the Caribbean and is simply old coral skeletons with many unique shapes. It has less personality than the less dense Marco Rock but still offers excellent surface area for bacteria. Due to its low cost, we highly recommend this rock for basic filtration. Although it is more dense than our Marco Rock it provides a perfect environment for anaerobic bacteria.
